The mission of the Casa de Portinari Museum is to preserve, research and communicate, for study and entertainment, the house where Candido Portinari lived. It is also part of the museum’s mission, by its characteristics and vocation, to develop content and information resources about the life and work of the painter Portinari, to articulate with landmarks of the city’s memory and to be a center for the promotion of artistic expression.

Museums are institutions of memory and safeguarding, which produce and disseminate knowledge, and their actions must always praise the protagonism occupied by culture in the lives of individuals in a society.

Based on the inspiration of the life and work of a painter who had to leave his village in search of knowledge and artistic training and became the greatest icon of Brazilian painting of all time, the Casa de Portinari Museum, over the years, has been making countless efforts to offer its community and surroundings a space that could bring together different languages of art and be a permanent link of connection between people and cultural knowledge.

The “Arts Shed” is the result of this understanding. Incorporated into the museum in 2023, the shed’s proposal is to make available to different audiences an area of artistic enjoyment through the institution’s educational and cultural activities, which, at the same time, opens doors to multiple cultural initiatives and expressions, of different languages and natures in order to promote a constant dialogue between the museum, artists, cultural institutions and the general public.
